Lynx is a full-featured text-mode WWW browser. Lynx 2.7.1 does not replace Lynx/2; the two are substantially different programs. Lynx/2 is based on an older version of Lynx (2.4.1), but has a significant body of added features relative to mainstream Lynx 2.4.1, including table support, some frames support, user-defined colors, and support for Java applets. I ported Lynx 2.7.1 to OS/2 largely because of the divergence between 'mainstream' Lynx development and Lynx/2. Hardcore OS/2 Lynxers will want to have both programs. Lynx 2.7.1 also has lots of new configurable options relating to such things as HTML comment handling and how inline images are displayed. Lynx 2.7.1 for OS/2 can be run in a Full-screen session, a VIO window, or an xterm under XFree86-OS/2.

Lynx 2.7.1 for OS/2 (binaries and source patches) can be found at the following places: hopefully soon to be and which also has a copy of the README file and links to other Lynx resources. This release of Lynx 2.7.1 for OS/2 is based on stable Lynx code, but is still a little buggy or odd in some ways, none of which should interfere with normal use. The bugs or limitations I know about are mentioned in the included README file. A new updated version 4.0 of TinkBar Lite and TinkBar for Word Pro for OS/2 (and Windows too) is now available from the TinkBar Web Page.

TinkBar works with ALL official Lotus Word Pro and SmartSuite releases on all supported OS's. Extra effort was taken to preserve OS/2 parity with all functions. Highlights of What's New in Version 4.00 TinkBar (T) and TinkLite (TL) - More versatility with characters, they can now be inserted in between text. (both bars) - Extra quotes (requested by Father Winston). (T) - The Ellipsis (why didn't I think of this the first time). (T) - Extra icons to create more specialized envelopes and have them handy for use.

(T) - Envelope SmartMasters to otherwise inspire or make you laugh your way into creating your own, if you haven't already.(both bars) special setup is required - Footnote and Endnote icons. (T) - An Endnote SmartMaster that provides superscripted endnotes. (T) - A Script for copying endnotes into a separate, malleable document. (T) - A document that quickly assigns hotkey combos (T) An online manual comes in LWP document form with the TinkBar Also new is a WinOS2 based installation program. Version 4.0 does require WinOS2 support to perform the installation.

A new version 4.01 REXX based install is already in the works for users without WinOS2. All setup is now performed for you and an uninstall function is provided. A new announcement will be posted when version 4.01 is ready, Please hold on if you don't have WinOS2 support. It takes time to write this complicated install. A future version 5.0 will include Network based TinkBar. Version 4.0 currently will require that the scripts, icons, and smasters directories reside on local disk drives only.

Additional requirements can be found on the TinkBar home page. TinkBar is not a supported product of Lotus Development Corporation.

TinkBar does have a strong OS/2 user base that will continue to be supported. We ain't Lotus! TinkBar is the work of 'Tink' Long and Paul Blais. Workhorse Library Series Q: When is a book more than a book? A: When it is a Workhorse Library Computer Book on CDROM from QVision. A Workhorse Library Book is a combination of text, spoken words and original artwork.

Titles in the Workhorse Library Series will include both classical and original works. There will be books suitable for children, teenagers, and adults as well as books suitable for children of all ages such as 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. The first Workhorse Library Book to be released is 'Aesop's Fables - Volume 1'. A collection of 40 Aesop's Fables each with an original piece of artwork, hand drawn and scanned into the computer in full color. QVision has collected over 350 unique Aesop's Fables and plans to publish at least two more volumes in 1997 of these fables. A Workhorse Library Book lets you read the text and also will read the text to you or your child. A simple easy to use interface, tested on children as young as 4 years old, lets you concentrate on the story not the computer interface.

Your young child can sit down and have an Aesop's Fable read to her or him without your assistance. Research has indicated that reading out load to a child is one of the best aids to the child's future educational process. Now you can have your computer read to your child and to you too! Children of all ages - such as an 80 year old grandmother - can enjoy Aesop; these timeless stories are teaching-fables from the classical era of Greece. Everyone remembers the story of the 'Tortoise and the Hare' from their youth. However the Workhorse Library Series was not designed to be just a story book reader. This series was designed along side QVision's Workhorse Learning Series of educational programs.

'Aesop's Fables - Volume 3' is scheduled for October 1997. Workhorse Library as an Educational Tool A Workhorse Library Book produces educational benefits on different levels depending on the child. A young child 2-3 years old enjoys it mainly as a 'picture book'.

Zoc(zap-o-comm

A little older child 4-5 years old enjoys it as a story and a 'seeing the pictures move in my mind' book, thus giving them a chance to build an imagination and to start an understanding of more vocabulary. A 5-7 year old beginning reader actively increases his vocabulary and sight words. A young reader 6-7 years old gets some reinforcement for his work in reading by being able to follow along in a 'different book' from his school book. And a reader 8-9 to 10-11 years old can follow along completely and pick up the more difficult words. All the while, the children are learning and practicing basic computer skills too. Older readers will enjoy classic literature such as Robert Louis Stevenson.
